Abstract
I will discuss the implications for top-down suggestions and bottom-up explorative techniques, illustrated with IBS evidence from RCT and clinical experience. Two cases will be used to illustrate how I practise imagery tests and individualised approaches in the treatment of IBS.
Regardless of diagnosis, patients are spread out between two polarities: those who gain from directive suggestive brief interventions and those who need an explorative long-term bottom-up approach. These polarities match the degree of ego strength and premorbid mental status, and guide my choice of approach together with direct feedback from patients.
In the second part, participants will practise Shorr Imagery combined with exercises inspired of Helen Watkins ego state perspectives.

At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:
Reflect on the role of left versus right hemispheric activity in academic and clinical hypnosis.
Explore your hemispheric preferences and future options for improved hemispheric interaction.

Susanna Carolusson, MSc, licensed psychologist, licensed psychotherapist, hypnotherapist, diploma of body psychotherapist, certified ego state therapist, certified supervisor, and teacher in psychodynamic psychotherapy and EST.
Susanna is the past president and an honorary Swedish Society for Clinical Hypnosis (SSCH) member. She has received an ESH fellowship award for her clinical hypnosis expertise and contribution to the field. Susanna is also the Director of SSCH teaching programs and the faculty chair for Supervisor and teacher training, accredited by the Swedish Psychological Association.
She has published three and co-authored five books, conducted several articles, and produced audio files for various needs.

- Past chair of SSCH MHE Research Foundation.
- Co-chair of ISH committee for membership applications.
