Abstract
Chronic orofacial pain affects about 25% of the population. Very few methods to treat the chronic orofacial pain are known. Often, patients suffer from side effects of medication. Migraines and headaches are frequently linked to bruxism. The grinding and clenching tooth can lead to tooth damage and muscle pain. Since it is an unconscious habit, hypnosis can be helpful. Using hypnosis to treat bruxism in childhood could prevent tooth damage and the suffering from headaches and migraines later in life. This masterclass will describe how I have used hypnosis over the years to treat bruxism in childhood and with adults, as well as in chronic orofacial pain patients. The main focus has always been to focus on developing patient resources and teaching chronic pain patients how to use hypnotic analgesia.
To conclude, I will talk about the successful treatment of a 14-year-old girl who stuttered. The case illustrates how hypnosis based on developing resources can help a child overcome stuttering.
