Abstract
1. Introduction to Balinese Trance Healers and Mass Trance Ceremonies
a. Brief introduction to the place of trance in Balinese culture and healing traditions for individuals, families, and society. Videos and photos accompany the lecture.
b. The influence of Balinese trance on Western Psychotherapy: Bateson, Mead, Erickson, Suryani, Keeney.
2. Examples from actual practice by Balians three different healers working with a lawyer, a schoolboy, and a case of sudden infant death.
3. Melasti - A Balinese cleansing ceremony adapted for our therapy practices as a group trance experience for the workshop participants.
4. Q & A as time allows.
Short CV
Eric Greenleaf, PhD, has practiced psychotherapy and hypnosis in the SF Bay Area, California, for 50 years. He directs the Milton H. Erickson Institute of the Bay Area, teaches worldwide, and studies trance and healing in Bali. His book, The Problem of Evil: Ancient Dilemmas and Modern Therapy, appeared in 2000 and is published in English, Spanish, and Mandarin.
Dr. Erickson chose Eric to receive the first Milton H. Erickson Award of Scientific Excellence for Writing in Hypnosis.
